Just Another Manic Thursday
Tonight brings us HORRORHOSTPALOOZA
Part I...
The
bands scheduled to play at EDWOODSTOCK (now) are The Helper Monkeys,
Flip the Switch and Sacramento (the band). The festivities start
at 6 p.m. Save a buck on admission by dressing in drag, or as
a character from one of Edward D. Wood's movies. Oh - and a press
release now appears on our online media kit web page.
More news - Mr. Lobo will be serving as the master
of ceremonies for the showing of Bob Moricz's movie, "The Midnight
of My Life". Mark your calendars for Saturday, Nov. 13 at 11 p.m.
and head for (where else?) the Crest.

The Man In The Golden Mask
Our online Media Kit now contains a link to the QuickTime version of Bob Wilkins' 1978 interview with the actor who made 'C3P0' a household acronym - Anthony Daniels. Thanks, Bob!

'tis The Season
Another condensed episode is available in QuickTime format - our season finale, The Horror of Party Beach. Del Tenney's one-hit wonder about a sea creature with a thirst for bathing beauties. Consume and enjoy.
In order to give those fair-weather Cinsomniacs a chance to get caught up with all the lunacy and splendor that is Season 3... the good folks at KEJB UPN 43 are showing them all again! Tomorrow (Sept. 18) it's time yet again for "Night of the Living Dead". They're being shown in the same order as originally broadcast, so you can look forward to "The Brain That Wouldn't Die" on Sept. 25 and "Gigantis: The Fire Monster," the second Godzilla movie ever made, on Oct. 2.
Speaking of "NOTLD," Dave Baker - our favorite blood donor in South Florida - graciously gave his permission for us to reproduce his soundtrack review from Monsterclub.com... Check it out in our Fanboy Lounge. Look for Dave's record reviews in the upcoming Issue #11 of "Monster News".
"It's music meets Woodism in a perfect mix of wild, lighthearted craziness," says Rev. Steve. What is he babbling about this time? Why, it's Edwoodstock at the Crest on October 17. The fun starts at 6 p.m. You can find spiffy media coverage of the Church of Ed Wood by wandering around Film Threat Online, Rue Morgue magazine (October issue) and Premiere magazine (November).
It's that time of year again - HORRORHOSTPALOOZA!
Thursday, October 7 at 7:30 - Parkway Theatre in Oakland, CA - JOHN STANLEY, DOKTOR GOULFINGER and Mr. Lobo host "The Craving," in which Paul Naschy drools with the ghouls as the Spanish Wolf Man battling sexy female vampires. Then, for a truly obscure psychotronic experience, you must stay for 1979's "Dr. Jekyll's Dungeon of Death," in which the mad doctor plays "Hyde" and go seek with some swingin' modern day San Franciscans! Both of these rarities are courtesy of The Werepad, and Vampress Mina Harker from the Vampire Tour of San Francisco will also come bearing gifts. $8 gets you in.
'Palooza part two will also be at the Parkway, October 21 at 7:30. Hoo boy, it's Bob Wilkins! He's scheduled to host with John Stanley, Mr. Lobo and Doktor Goulfinger... Come out and see "Godzilla Vs. the Sea Monster" (costarring Mothra) in a brand new 35mm print - plus a brand new B movie classic "Lost Skeleton of Cadavra"
(2001/2004), a hilarious riff off 50s sci-fi gems such as "Catwomen on the Moon" and "Brain From Planet Arous". And there's live theremin music by Robert Silverman... all for only 12 bucks.
Kick off your shoes and head for the wine country Friday, Oct. 29 for Part 3 - at COPIA: The American Center For Wine, Food & the Arts, 500 First St. in Napa, CA. The Hipster Halloween Party starts at 8 and features "House on Haunted Hill" (1959), the pioneering 3D short "Murder in 3D", the Three Stooges short "Spooks!" and musical guests Johnny and Gin Atomic performing their ATOMIC LOUNGE SHOW live! Admission is a paltry $6.
Had enough yet? Of course not... because we're about to tell you about Godzillafest at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco. November 17 - 23... Twenty Godzilla films... Contests... and the occasional appearance of Bob Wilkins, John Stanley and our very own Mr. Lobo. Autumn is truly the most wonderful time of the year - for misunderstood-movie fans.
9/4/04 Update
Crash, Boom, Bang
Hey, you Monroe / El Dorado folks - tonight's scheduled CI episode of "Star Crash" is unique for not one, but two reasons! Local talent will play a key role (over five minutes' worth)... and it'll be a particularly good show to tape because we're already re-editing it. That means the version you'll see will never be broadcast again...
We also wanted to let you Sacramentans know that MorTaiko Japanese Drummers, who appeared at our last live show, will be performing two weeks from today. Sensei Bruce Morishita wrote the songs and heads up the group of ten seasoned drummers. Two riveting shows at 2 and 7, Memorial Auditorium Little Theater, advance tickets $12 / $14 at the door. For more info and ticket outlets fire off an e-mail to mortaiko@hotmail.com.
8/31/04 Update
Best of Breed
As CI's first 28-episode season draws to a close, you'll soon discover that we know how to pace ourselves. Condensed QuickTime versions of our Bigfoot - The Mysterious Monster and Prince of Space episodes have been posted for you, and these shows are among the very best we've produced. The last two episodes of this season will be just as ambitious. We salute Mr. Waller for incomprehensible perseverance, Mr. Neider for resourcefulness, Mr. Moon for phenomenal creativity, and the many actors who are making Cinema Insomnia look so much better than it really is. Links to these new demos and eighteen other video features can be found on the online Media Kit page.
Speaking of superlatives, it's high time we posted our awkward, mushy thanks to all you faithful Japanese SuperShow Mach 2 attendees! It never would've been the same without you... and that's even truer of B Mania, MorTaiko Japanese Drummers, Megaphant (and Eric Yee), Darrin Wood and the super-hardworking crew. Salute these folks and/or creatures when you see them passing by.
Louisianans (Klingon or otherwise) - the KEJB UPN 43 season finale, airing September 11, is slated to be "THE HORROR OF PARTY BEACH". Send summer on its way with a CI sock hop shindig - all the cool cats are doing it.
8/20/04 Update
Somewhere In The Crowd, There's You
Not to put too fine of a point on it, Mr. Lobo indicated he is eagerly, passionately, wistfully looking forward to your presence at Sacramento's beautiful/historic Crest Theatre tomorrow night, 10:30 p.m., for "Mr. Lobo's Japanese Sci-Fi SuperShow Mach 2." There will be a special guest monster you have to see to believe, and skilled percussion you'll want to hear. Singing will be optional (but encouraged).
8/9/04 Update
Talk Talk Happy Talk Talk Talk Nice Talk
Mr. Lobo says: "Our IMDB comments read like a Who's Who of shlockologists... Sci-fi news reporter Kenneth Hulsey, horror novelist Tressa Graves and Saint "Tor" Hershman from The Church of Ed Wood. Thanks for putting your considerable reputations on the line with public (and unsolicited) praise for Cinema Insomnia and its humble host!"
Gerry Carpenter of scifilm.org wrote a very entertaining review of "Monster From A Prehistoric Planet," and we're pleased to say The Cinema Insomnia version was well received. Thanks, Gerry!
While we know you're planning on a great night at our August 21 SuperShow in Sacramento (see below), let's not forget this Saturday's screening in Alameda. Yes, it's "striking" 35mm prints of 7th Voyage of Sinbad and 20 Million Miles to Earth at the former Alameda Naval Air Station at 6 p.m. John Stanley hosts, and a panel discussion from special effects experts will follow. Only ten bucks? Amazing. Find more info at the Bay Area Film Events website.
