More than “Fan of The Week” — Sci-Fi Bob is a “Reel” Friend to Fantastic Films!

A collector  of films and memorabilia “SCI-FI BOB” EKMAN  is a fixture in the fandom community at large!

Before Mr. Lobo was called “Mister Lobo”, Bob and his circle of 16mm film collectors put on amazing film shows at convention halls and events  projecting a  wide variety of rare, classic and downright bizarre horror, science fiction, camp, cult, ephemeral, educational, and misunderstood movies!
sci-fiBobpoolparty      sci-fiBobjoyThe term Psychotronic came from an obscure low budget cult film The Psychotronic Man based on the obscure concept of psychotronics–Cold War paranoia over mind control. The film inspired Michael J. Weldon to call a magazine covering obscure films that he felt were under-appreciated by the mainstream Psychotronic Video.

The magazine inspired Psychotronic film societies to crop up all over the country and in the San Francisco Bay Area–Sci Fi Bob had been bringing Psychotronic film shows to the Bay Area for years when we met him in the 1990’s, continuing to serve up 16mm madness in San Francisco, Oakland, El Cerrito, Mendecino, Sacramento, Fort Bragg, San Leandro and, of course, at KFJC’s Psychotronix Film Show at Foothill College, which regularly packs the house there three times a year–often with standing sci-fiBobkfjcsoloroom only.

CINEMA INSOMNIA’S MR. LOBO was a guest at these shows from 2001-2011. Bob put together custom Mr. Lobo clocks and Cinema Insomnia Lobby Cards to give away to new fans.

We have always believed that projectionists and archivists are heroes. Bob not only preserved the past–but the present as well. He always had his trusty 35mm still camera handy to capture some of Mr. Lobo’s most important history as it was happening.

sci-fiBobwilkinsloboHe has also provided film to festivals and events hosted and co-hosted by Mr. Lobo for Bay Area Film Events, Thrillville, several Lobotronic Film Shows, and even films used in episodes of Cinema Insomnia.

Sci-Fi Bob wrote an article on Munsters collectables for Mr. and Mrs. Lobo’s magazine and supplied countless hilarious “cut and paste” fan art of Mr. Lobo for the interwebs and so much more.
Much of the ephemera on Cinema Insomnia is inspired by those shows we did together. Now that Mr. Lobo is based on the East Coast we miss him dearly.  In recent years Bob has been a loyal caretaker of his elderly father who passed away this week

CINEMA INSOMNIA gets salty with Candice Hilligoss who takes a job tickling the ivories on a Church Wurlitzer in Utah after taking a deadly spill off a bridge in Kansas. And like your movie host Mr. Lobo, she seems to be stuck between at least two worlds!  2 hours of eerie slumber party fun brought to you through the miracle of HOST-O-VISION! Building Bridges: Fan of The Week – A Self Proclaimed “Loyal Stooge” of Mr. Lobo

Lobofan copyJeremy Bridges 3Some fans are just incredibly humbling with their support of their misunderstood movie host Mr. Lobo. Many of our most loyal four-star-fans come from the great state of Louisiana.  Why? Well, CINEMA  INSOMNIA was on a super-station out of Monroe, LA for several years, KEJB UPN 43, and the show aired there at 10pm Saturday Nights after the OUTER LIMITS. By far our best time-slot and lead in. Since 2009-or-so, we have been hearing from Sleepless Knight JEREMY BRIDGES. He would purchase DVDs and other goodies including our original fan club kit–always with some kind words. He even upgraded a    Jeremy Bridges 4 couple years ago for our BRAND NEW fan club certificate and card and donated to our ten year Kickstarter campaign. All are lovingly displayed in the home he shares with his creative and charming wife Circe, dog, and new baby(not shown here).

He even purchased one of Miss Mittens offspring…when we offered live house plants through Apprehensive Films. His little miss grew and grew into a rather tall lady. She has already out grown 2 pots and is currently growing larger by the day–He had us send him a new sticker for her new digs. He also has been especially patient with a lot of mail order faux pas and somehow always comes back for more. And lovingly displays and posts his CInsomniac spoils for other fans to drool over.

AJeremy Bridges 5s a working artist who depends on generous patrons, Mr. Lobo attributes Jeremy’s fandom resulting in a lot of hot dinners and electricity for the Lobo family–and salutes him. “He is a rare breed and we need more like him. A lot more”

Thank You, Jeremy Bridges, valued Sleepless Knight of Insomnia, for all your support and for watching all those Misunderstood Movies! Mr. Lobo  has sent you an autographed “fan of the week” award–THE SLEEPLESS KNIGHT OF THE WEEK–for May 19th-25th 2014! And don’t worry it’s already in the mail!

Blobfloat5Some pictures from today in Phoenixville. Your emcee for July’s Blobfest getting the word out that THE BLOB IS COMING July 11th, 12th, and 13th! We had a float full of Karate class kids, we threw candy to the crowd, danced with strangers in the street, and Dr. Frank N. Stone and Larry The Greaser blasted fire extinguishers to keep the red menace in line! What great fun…a real slice of American Apple Pie to go with the gooey ooze of THE BLOB! Two great traditions that taste great together! What a wonderful town full of wonderful folks…Mr. Lobo and Dixie had a fantastic day at the parade and festival!
