A Femme Fatale Fan That Will Slay You! All Rise(and Fall) For Our Lady Sleepless Knight of the Week!

This week’s Lady Sleepless Knight ASHLEY STATUM is not a stranger to MR. LOBO! Back on October 12, 2012, Ashley participated in the 6th Annual Zombie Beauty Pageant for the Sacramento Horror Film Festival* held at the Colonial Theater–Mr. Lobo had been the MC for the festival for 6 years–until his move to the East Coast. In 2013 Ashley would FINALLY take the crown and first place–but unfortunately her favorite horror host wasn’t there to present her the crown!

10508535_672601636147859_840829984_nShe was first introduced to CINEMA INSOMNIA by her Sleepless Knight older sister, Kelcey. She admitted to not looking into it at first until she and her sister attended the SACRAMENTO HORROR FILM FESTIVAL in 2009.10529449_672601879481168_658135330_n“Initially I went to compete in the annual Zombie Beauty Pageant and to watch some rad horror movies. Then we saw Mr. Lobo take the stage. That totally sparked my interest because I’ve always had a soft spot in my little moldy heart for crappy (misunderstood) horror flicks, and here was a person who was all about it!” She commented.

10528069_672601602814529_760887499_nAfter that weekend, Ashley became a huge CINSOMNIAC for life! She continually shows her support by watching CINEMA INSOMNIA episodes and being active on social media–For extra credit, on her own time, She watches tons of un-hosted misunderstood movies and creates horror-themed “make ups” including her own Zombie look.

Thank You, ASHLEY STATUM, valued Sleepless Knight, for all your support and for watching all those Misunderstood Movies! Please Send Along Your Address! Mr. Lobo will be sending you an autographed “fan of the week” award–THE SLEEPLESS KNIGHT OF THE WEEK–for July 11th through the 17th! 10357818_672603879480968_6693830403028848410_n

CONFESSIONS OF A MR. LOBO FAN–SLEEPLESS KNIGHT OF THE WEEK!

Lobofan copyMonsterBashmrloboTVAfter missing MONSTER BASH 2014, a certain CINEMA INSOMNIA FAN was feeling a bit down and disappointed that he didn’t get to see MR. LOBO host CALTIKI(1959) or talk with him about MISUNDERSTOOD MOVIES on the convention floor. This was not unnoticed by his loving wife–who contacted MR. LOBO via email and nominated her husband for CINEMA INSOMNIA’S FAN OF THE WEEK.

We talked to MARK MILLER and realized that his story is our story. A little silliness on a Saturday Night is important and we miss our monster family when they’re not around. Mr. Lobo asked our FAN OF THE WEEK to tell his story in HIS OWN WORDS–We think many of you will relate!

QuatermassPit_US1“I was an only child who grew up in rural eastern Tennessee.  At that time, there were only two television stations to choose from:  NBC and CBS (ABC later entered on a new set of frequencies called UHF).  Neither of these stations had HORROR HOSTS and mostly followed network programming.  Saturday nights, the CBS station occasionally had a Horror or Science Fiction movie after the network news ended at 11:30PM, my first exposure to THE VULTURE(1966), FIVE MILLION YEARS monolithTO EARTH(1967) and THE MONOLITH MONSTERS(1957).  I was hooked on any movie that had hardware with a blinking light and a knob to turn.  My main diet of Science Fiction came from the afternoon syndication of STAR TREK and VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA.

I discovered, if I moved our new UHF enabled color television from one side of the living room to the other, I could pick up channel 36 from Charlotte, North Carolina and watch SHOCK THEATER.  This rearrangement of my Mother’s perfect living room had to be accomplished very quietly and late at night.  This task was compounded by the fact that the front door had clear windows–those had to be covered with newspaper so THE MONSTERS could not peek in the living room from the outside.
PleaseStandBy
SHOCK THEATER provided mI married a monster from outer space-4e with countless movies, first being I MARRIED A MONSTER FROM OUTER SPACE(1958) and many nightmares of The Monsters From Outer Space killing the dogs and then themselves melting.

My favorite Science Fiction movie is FORBIDDEN PLANET(1956) with my favorite robot ROBBY.  I had read about Forbidden Planet in STARLOG magazine, but I had not seen the movie until 1978 on the CBS late movie, after STAR WARS(1977) made Science Fiction Movies viable again.  I was fortunate enoughQueen_of_Outer_Space to finally see FORBIDDEN PLANET at the Baxter Theater in Louisville, Kentucky in 2001–Ann Francis was the featured guest at WONDERFEST.

I collect original movie posters.  I can be seen in my fallout shelter holding an original Belgium FORBIDDEN PLANET poster.  Other favorite original posters can also be seen such as THE ASTOUNDING SHE-MONSTER(1957), TERROR FROM THE YEAR 5000, TRIP TO MARS(1958), WAR OF THE SATELLITES(1968) and QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE(1958).photo1
WilkinsLoboDVD
My first encounter with MR LOBO was his interview with CREATURE FEATURE Host BOB WILKINS on the CINEMA INSOMNIA HALLOWEEN SPECIAL DVD.  I enjoyed MR. LOBO’s style and familiarity with Bob.  I attended Monster Bash in 2013 and was further exposed to his show when he announced the launching of a new ROKU channel called ZOM-BEE TV.  I have been watching Cinema Insomnia on ZOM-BEE TV ever since.
Thanks MR. LOBO and MISS MITTENS!

Thank You, MARK MILLER, valued Sleepless Knight, for all your support and for watching all those Misunderstood Movies with your wonderful wife LESLIE. We have your address and Mr. Lobo will be sending you a “fan of the week” award–THE SLEEPLESS KNIGHT OF THE WEEK–for July 4th through the10th 2014!
