Classic Fan of the Week!

For the next couple weeks, we will be re-honoring some of the FAN’S OF THE WEEK! All of you and any of you may be picked for future FAN’S OF THE WEEK! If you have a story and would like to share it; you can send your pictures and story about how you found out about Cinema Insomnia, favorite episode, favorite misunderstood movie, etc to [email protected]!

This we are re-honoring SIR LAWRENCE LANEY LOFTIN, the very first SLEEPLESS KNIGHT OF THE WEEK who paved the way for this to continue:

LobofanSir Lawrence Laney Loftin is a MR. LOBO fan from way back and is in fact the poster child in our Fan of the Week graphic above.  Ever since he discovered CINEMA INSOMNIA on KEJB UPN 43 in Monroe, Louisiana, back in 2003-2004, our staff has been getting weird things in the mail from Laney–Christmas cards, postcards, magnets, books, kitsch, pulp-fiction, VHS tapes, and scandalous photos of himself with uninitiated pizza delivery girls.

We dropped in on Laney during a cross country tour and witnessed his mind boggling collection of Fantasy, Horror, Sci-fi, and Comic Book memorabilia.
It was then, in person, when Laney gave MR. LOBO the strangest gift of them all–a taxidermy piece of Cryptozoic-crypto-zoology–called a Hootenanny! This kin of the Jack-a-lope and the Swamp Booger was stuffed by his father after a close encounter.

hootenanyThe Hootenany briefly appeared in our 2013 Haunted House Special and resembles a deer’s behind with bobcat teeth. Semi-retired, Laney works at the Society for the Prevention of Meanness to Laney, when he is not lobbying for his local tavern or Pizza place to show Cinema Insomnia episodes on the big screen instead of Svengoolie.

He spends countless hours making crude memes of MR. LOBO for the internet and has crashed MST3k screenings while wearing his CINEMA INSOMNIA T-shirt. Each month, he sends us different pictures that complement our THEME OF THE MONTH! Whether it’s a hilarious meme, film poster, or picture edit-SIR LAWRENCE never stops showing his support for CINEMA INSOMNIA and his other CInsomniac and Sleepless Knight Family.

laneythrowbackThank You, Lawrence Laney Loftin, valued Sleepless Knight, for all your support over the years and for watching all those misunderstood movies!

Today, we re-honor you and open the doors for the future FAN’S OF THE WEEK! Send in your stories TODAY!

Are You Ready To “Un-Wrap” The Theme of the Month?

As more news arises from OUTER SPACE INTERNATIONAL and CINEMA INSOMNIA, this month’s THEME OF THE MONTH shall bring it’s own sort of terror! For years, the mysteries of the Egyptian kings have baffled archeologists, historians, and scientists. Some have said the tombs hidden in the masses of sand and earth contain evil curses who rack the bodies of searchers who stumble upon them. For years, Universal and Hammer along with many independent films have told many different adaptions of the tale of THE MUMMY!

image2sIt all began with BORIS KARLOFF’s 1932 classic, THE MUMMY. His monster wreaked havoc, conquering anyone who was in his path. From there, a legend was born and from there did many films follow.

We’ve seen infinitely many different adaptions of this tale. THE MUMMY’S HAND (1940), THE MUMMY’S CURSE (1944), THE MUMMY’S GHOST, and many more. Then HAMMER FILMS began it’s own reign of terror.

This month, we will dive deep into the adaptions of THE MUMMY and maybe even discover a few surprises along the way. What is your favorite adaption of THE MUMMY? Do you prefer BORIS KARLOFF, LON CHANEY JR., or CHRISTOPHER LEE as the monster?

What is your favorite MUMMY franchise film? Do you prefer HAMMER or UNIVERSAL? Mummy-CurseSend us your pictures, MUMMY themed art, tattoo art, collection of your Mummy films or figures, or pictures/video of anything you think pertains to the theme and it will be shared on our pages to be seen and enjoyed by all!

Help us celebrate the “uncovering” of THE MUMMY as well as the more news to come from OUTER SPACE INTERNATIONAL. Keep Your Eyes Open, Your Curiosity in Check, and BEWARE OF THE MUMMY!

This Sleepless Knight is Something Suave…

There’s something about our FAN OF THE WEEK, TIM CALDWELL. Today, he tells us his story about how Mr. Lobo got him started in the hosting biz without even knowing it…

MeandCam  “I’ve always loved movies. Probably because I was born during a broadcast of the movie Yellow Submarine. Most of my happiest memories growing up involved going to the old Ferguson Hills Drive-In or the Mount Healthy Drive-in (Both were in Cincinnati, Ohio). My mom tells me that I used to make her read all of the credits in the movies and tv shows that were on tv. In fact, that’s how I learned to read because she got tired of reading every credit that she told me to. Even at a very young age, while most of my friends were watching the new shows and movies, I was watching films by The Marx Brothers, Laurel and Hardy, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the new stuff too. But when any movie was on, I would definitely watch it.

Evacuate to the Fan Pages, Mr. Lobo’s personal Facebook Page will be Deactivated in 2 Weeks!

PleaseStandBy“Looking back I never could be myself of facebook. “Mister” was not acceptable when I created my account because it is a title. Facebook isn’t really a word, but I never judged them.

When I investigated a legal name change in real life–you have to testify and have a hearing, and it is expensive, and I was advised that I already am “Mr. Lobo”, I can cash checks as “Mr. Lobo” since Lobo is my given last name. “Mr. T.”  is “Mr. T.” and if I met “Dr. Seuss”–I’d call him “Dr. Suess”. Not a problem.

On Facebook, I was never “Mr. Lobo” or “Mister Lobo”–I was “Host Mrlobo”  or “MrLobo Host” or “MysterLobo Ismynamereally Dontcallmeerik”. I had hesitated creating a new account because I thought I would have to start from square one…but after the recent Drag Queen uprising against unfair name policies I thought I’d try opening a new account after months of failed attempts to fix my current one.

“Mister” is still not allowed and there isn’t even a way to get started without fudging it by making something up that is simply not my name. I don’t want to be “TheRealMister Lobo”. I’m tired of games. I am tired of strangers at shows calling me out by my first name like we’re old buddies or prying about family health issues. I am an entertainer and an artist. If you’ve only seen me at shows and we’ve haven’t had a meal together, or talked on the phone, or visited each others homes–we don’t really know each other. I appreciate everyone that likes and “likes” me and what I do…but I “like” to be respected.

We live in a world were illusions and pretending are rarely tolerated and that being “real” is so important. I’ve got a lot of creative projects to do and facebook is killing my time, my mojo, and my confidence–my tools of the trade. And that is for real.”

You can contact me on my Mr. Lobo fan page.

SIR PAUL KNIGHT or “PAULZILLA” , has been watching good, bad, and misunderstood movies since his first hatching. His dear “Momzilla” recalls him peeking around the castle couch to watch THE WOLFMAN(1941) at the tender age of 3. Unlike other kids his age, he seldom had nightmares watching all the spookiness. He was lucky enough to catch  the tail-end of the AURORA Monster Model craze in the mid-70’s, working on the Glow-in-the-Dark versions of THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON(1954) and GODZILLA(1954) models with his Dadzilla.

After seeing most of the UNIVERSAL MONSTERS on TV, he came upon a wondrous find one day. While shopping with Momzilla, THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON leapt off the newsstand on a magazine emblazoned the title “FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND”.
This was Paulzilla’s first foray(or is it Forry?) into the wild world of Warren Publications helmed by the wonderful FORREST J ACKERMAN and JIM WARREN.  So began the journey into other Warren mags such as EERIE, CREEPY, and, of course, a little later, VAMPIRELLA. UNCLE FORRY was a writer, a literary agent, a principle founder of modern fandom, and probably had the world’s biggest collection of books and movie memorabilia. He was a great influence to both horror and science fiction and to Paulzilla.

After having his little impressionable mind blown with the release of STAR WARS(1977), he discovered another wondrous thing, the TV horror-host. Now allowed to stay up later, he found DR. MADBLOOD’S MOVIES on WAVY TV-10. Forever fascinated with the gent in the grey afro and lab coat saying “Hi, gang!”–as though he knew he was there! DOCTOR MADBLOOD(Jerry Harrell) taught Paul to love the really bad B-Movies, but not to take them too seriously and has been entertaining audiences in the Hampton Roads, VA area for over 40 years now.1379822_588007891235371_836957973_n
“He would happily warn us “Okay gang, We have a real ker-stinker tonight!” He still has his Halloween Special every year. Last year I was the CFTBL for the taping. I’ve been very blessed over the years and been persuaded to do numerous little bits or characters for the show, despite me being camera-shy and more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it.”

Back in 1999, Paulzilla’s writing colleague and mentor Deborah Painter, persuaded him to co-write an article on DR. MADBLOOD for SCARY MONSTERS MAGAZINE, Issue number 38. He’s been making contributions in SCARY MONSTERS ever since–a book thought to be the spirit successor to Forry’s FAMOUS MONSTERS.

51ByCafZ3JL__SY344_BO1,204,203,200_BTW Insomniacs, you can find CINEMA INSOMNIA host MR.LOBO in back issue #60, and #69 regarding the horror-host documentary he narrated VIRGINIA CREEPERS(2009) directed by SEAN KOTZ, and also a nice article on MR. LOBO’s mentor BOB WILKINS in issue #51. SCARY MONSTERS MAGAZINE has been going strong for over 25 years now, and I’m honored to be associated with it. In 2010, Paulzilla was approached by Debbie Painter to contribute a chapter to her book, FORRY: THE LIFE OF FORREST J ACKERMAN (McFARLAND PUBLISHING) relating his personal encounters with him over the years.

Ci_gigantisEven though CINEMA INSOMNIA aired only briefly in the HAMPTON ROADS area in 2003-2004 on COX 71, thanks to the inter-webs and Livestream channels like THE KREEPY KASTLE and THE VORTEXX, Paulzilla has been able to catch-up with CINEMA IMSOMNIA episodes, and really digs MR. LOBO’s homage’ to the great hosting legends, Mr.John Stanley and Bob Wilkins.

“Mr.Lobo has his own unique style, but you can definitely see the influence these two gentleman had on him. Mr. Lobo was broadcast on a number of stations in Virginia and has legions of Insomniacs here.

Finally, after years of being a fan of the show, I got to meet Mr.Lobo and the lovely Dixie Dellamorto Lobo, at Monster Fest-11 in Chesapeake,Virginia,in 2014. I happily left the SCARY MONSTERS table I was manning to purchase MR. LOBO’s Fan Club Kit at the CINEMA INSOMNIA table.
I am now OFFICIALLY SK1196! To make the experience even more wonderful, I was asked, along with MR. LOBO and COUNT GORE DE VOL to be Costume Contest Judges at this fun and fabulously frightening event hosted by CRAIG T. ADAMS(AKA Brain and Uncle Feloneous Madblood). Yummmm..A horror-host sandwich! Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, I later, along with the other guests like ORMON GRIMSBY, and CRAIG T. ADAMS, got to have dinner with MR. LOBO and Dixie after the show. What a great day that was. Paulzilla just wants to say “How honored I am to be nominated Sleepless Knight Of The Week! Thank you!”
