CONFESSIONS OF A MR. LOBO FAN–SLEEPLESS KNIGHT OF THE WEEK!

Lobofan copyMonsterBashmrloboTVAfter missing MONSTER BASH 2014, a certain CINEMA INSOMNIA FAN was feeling a bit down and disappointed that he didn’t get to see MR. LOBO host CALTIKI(1959) or talk with him about MISUNDERSTOOD MOVIES on the convention floor. This was not unnoticed by his loving wife–who contacted MR. LOBO via email and nominated her husband for CINEMA INSOMNIA’S FAN OF THE WEEK.

We talked to MARK MILLER and realized that his story is our story. A little silliness on a Saturday Night is important and we miss our monster family when they’re not around. Mr. Lobo asked our FAN OF THE WEEK to tell his story in HIS OWN WORDS–We think many of you will relate!

QuatermassPit_US1“I was an only child who grew up in rural eastern Tennessee.  At that time, there were only two television stations to choose from:  NBC and CBS (ABC later entered on a new set of frequencies called UHF).  Neither of these stations had HORROR HOSTS and mostly followed network programming.  Saturday nights, the CBS station occasionally had a Horror or Science Fiction movie after the network news ended at 11:30PM, my first exposure to THE VULTURE(1966), FIVE MILLION YEARS monolithTO EARTH(1967) and THE MONOLITH MONSTERS(1957).  I was hooked on any movie that had hardware with a blinking light and a knob to turn.  My main diet of Science Fiction came from the afternoon syndication of STAR TREK and VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA.

I discovered, if I moved our new UHF enabled color television from one side of the living room to the other, I could pick up channel 36 from Charlotte, North Carolina and watch SHOCK THEATER.  This rearrangement of my Mother’s perfect living room had to be accomplished very quietly and late at night.  This task was compounded by the fact that the front door had clear windows–those had to be covered with newspaper so THE MONSTERS could not peek in the living room from the outside.

SHOCK THEATER provided mI married a monster from outer space-4e with countless movies, first being I MARRIED A MONSTER FROM OUTER SPACE(1958) and many nightmares of The Monsters From Outer Space killing the dogs and then themselves melting.

My favorite Science Fiction movie is FORBIDDEN PLANET(1956) with my favorite robot ROBBY.  I had read about Forbidden Planet in STARLOG magazine, but I had not seen the movie until 1978 on the CBS late movie, after STAR WARS(1977) made Science Fiction Movies viable again.  I was fortunate enoughQueen_of_Outer_Space to finally see FORBIDDEN PLANET at the Baxter Theater in Louisville, Kentucky in 2001–Ann Francis was the featured guest at WONDERFEST.

I collect original movie posters.  I can be seen in my fallout shelter holding an original Belgium FORBIDDEN PLANET poster.  Other favorite original posters can also be seen such as THE ASTOUNDING SHE-MONSTER(1957), TERROR FROM THE YEAR 5000, TRIP TO MARS(1958), WAR OF THE SATELLITES(1968) and QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE(1958).photo1

My first encounter with MR LOBO was his interview with CREATURE FEATURE Host BOB WILKINS on the CINEMA INSOMNIA HALLOWEEN SPECIAL DVD.  I enjoyed MR. LOBO’s style and familiarity with Bob.  I attended Monster Bash in 2013 and was further exposed to his show when he announced the launching of a new ROKU channel called ZOM-BEE TV.  I have been watching Cinema Insomnia on ZOM-BEE TV ever since.
Thanks MR. LOBO and MISS MITTENS!

British Horror Invasion! Bunny Galore–International Fan of the Week!

BunnyPOSBunny1Hailing from London, BUNNY GALORE is a horror hostess herself inspired mostly by ELVIRA–but also, MR. LOBO. With some help from her carer, MARTIN RAMSDIN, she is bringing this traditionally American folk art to “Tellies” in the United Kingdom on SKY channels 231, 201, and 203. She can also be seen on the new BIZZARE TV ROKU Channel.

She saw CINEMA INSOMNIA’s BIGFOOT MYSTERIOUS CREATURE(1975) episode online in 2012 and has been stuck with us ever since! She said it reminded her of Arthur C. Clark’s MYSTERIOUS WORLD TV series from her childhood–in fact, the crystal skull from the titles still scares her!

Bunny4The outrageously funny and talented Bunny Galore flies her CInsomniac flag high. She gobbled up CINEMA INSOMNIA DVD’s like PRINCE OF SPACE(1959)(now out-of-print), purchased LOBOVISION GLASSES, Art Prints by Mr. Lobo and Mrs. Dixie Dellamorto Lobo, and is proud to display her OFFICIAL FAN CLUB KIT and Certificate.

She organized the first known Trans-Atlantic horror host team up to present CARNIVAL OF SOULS(1962) on SKY–Staging, Scripting, and Storyboarding this historic project that brought her and her favorite horror host, MR. LOBO, together(on screen, anyway) in a series of comedic skits based on the film.Bunny6

Bunny5She is a tireless booster of Cinema Insomnia and cult films in general and Hopes that one Day Mr. Lobo will host the Oscars.
