REVEREND STEVE GALINDO, is the founder of THE CHURCH OF ED WOOD. Founded in 1996, he continues to represent the memory of Ed Wood through his very real religion.
He even legally canonized MR. LOBO as THE PATRON SAINT OF LATE-NIGHT MOVIE HOSTS AND INSOMNIACS. REVEREND STEVE has also played a role in CINEMA INSOMNIA history by appearing in the episodes STARCRASH(1978) and BUCKET OF BLOOD(1959).
In 2004, SAINT MR. LOBO and REVEREND STEVE hosted the memorable music and film festival EDWOODSTOCK, reaching out to many people about the world of ED WOOD and his misunderstood films. At least four baptisms in buckets of film occurred that memorable night for lucky fans.
Rev. Saint Mr. Lobo tells us more…
“Mr. Lobo joined the church online at EdWood.Org when Rev. Steve was still in Arizona. As fate would have it, he and the seat of his MIGHTY WORLDWIDE CHURCH moved to Sacramento, in the early days of the show. Cinema Insomnia had a midnight screening of TIM BURTON’S ED WOOD(1994) that I hosted for the Sacramento International film festival. We also did a 16mm Screening of Plan 9…and as a commendation for my work in bringing Ed Wood films to the public, I was canonized by Rev, Steve as a SAINT on October 5th, 2003.
We put on an event for the Church called EDWOODSTOCK and Baptized people in buckets of film. We presented 3 bands and 2 films and some short subjects. We presented BRIDE OF THE MONSTER(1955) on the big screen and had Wood’s imagery behind the bands as they played! Steve Co-hosted and we were both interviewed for the SACRAMENTO NEWS & REVIEW. We had great chemistry and mutual respect…He played a beatnik customer in BUCKET OF BLOOD episode and a hologram of HIMSELF in the infamous banned episode STAR CRASH. I reference him and the church many times. My coveted PAL VHS copy of “ED WOOD’S I WOKE UP EARLY THE DAY I DIED”(1998) was a gift from the Reverend. We also had an adventure together trying to substantiate the now historically accepted reports that some of the Ghoul Man shots from PLAN NINE FROM OUTER SPACE(1959) were filmed in a abandoned Cemetery in our Sacramento–where we both lived at the time. Sweet man, Holy Man! Really, Mr. Lobo should have been Steve’s fan of the Week!”
It would seem these two iconoclasts did a lot to boost each other as well as the legacy of misunderstood movie director EDWARD D. WOOD JR.
Mr. Lobo and Reverend Steve have left Sacramento and California for greener pastures. Today, he resides in Oklahoma, raising the next generation of CInsomniacs in his own home. His son, in particular, is a big fan of the classic CINEMA INSOMNIA episode featuring GIGANTIS THE FIRE MONSTER(1955).
