Hyah! Mr. Lobo gets a kick out of Martial Artist and Sleepless Knight of the Week–Mike Quebec

Number One Super guy, MICHAEL QUEBEC, is our fan of the week. Usually Mr. Lobo’s fans have a less active lifestyle. This Knight ran ads in some of our old shows as a call to arms to make low budget Martial Arts movies in the San Francisco Bay Area. The picture above is from a trailer for the series DISAVOWED.
Mike even allowed Mr. Lobo to record a segment at his school and showed our honorable host a few self-defense moves for the unfinished WENG WENG: THE IMPOSSIBLE KID(1982) episode. He also taught many CInsomniacs in the San Francisco Bay Area how to Swing Dance. Here, he tells his story…but first Let’s Rock!

http://www.themonsterclub.com/mn1.gif“I first encountered MR. LOBO in an issue of The MONSTER NEWS–issue number 10. It was sometime around the early 2000s when I got that free magazine while attending a film festival in Alameda. I later met him in person at the Castro Theater in San Francisco either during a GODZILLA, a DARK SHADOWS, or a JAMES BOND film festival (it was more than 10 years ago so I forget! I said, “You’re him!” to which he replied, “Who me, who hah?!”)

A few weeks later, after getting home late one night after hosting a swing dance party (one of my many jobs for which our friend and Sleepless Knight Bob Ekman refers to me as “Dancer Guy”), I flipped through the channels on my TV while trying to get sleepy and I saw that Mr. Lobo was on KTEH Channel 54 and I was hooked! I later met him again at a mutual friend’s party (actually a friend of mine who is also involved in swing dancing who emailed me asking, “Hey are you an Insomniac too?” after she saw my name on the Cinema Insomnia website as a visitor to the site leaving a comment.)

http://www.bmovienation.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/lobo_mr.jpgIt was easy talking to Mr Lobo and we found we had a mutual love not just of horror and sci-fi films, but basically all genres of cult cinema, including teen exploitation films from the 1950’s and ’60’s and martial arts films.

Later, he asked me to shoot a skit with him at the martial arts school I was teaching at at the time. (Another job of mine and that skit is up on You Tube!)

I was sad to hear that he was no longer on KTEH, but I always will have fun memories of his shows and I will always be a huge admirer of his comedic talent.

Thank you Mr. Lobo for bringing us such joy.”

The movie party doesn’t have to end, Mike. Here is a classic KTEH episode on our ustream channel! Remember when MR. LOBO hosted this film starring your martial arts Street Fighter hero SONNY CHIBA as SPACE CHIEF? The CINEMA INSOMNIA presentation of INVASION OF THE NEPTUNE MEN(1961)!
