Bring out your Silver Shamrocks! It’s “Happy Happy Halloween” Month on Cinema Insomnia!

The official countdown to Halloween has begun, Cinsomniacs and Sleepless Knights. Not only that, but it is almost OUTER SPACE INTERNATIONAL’S 1st birthday! It’s time to break out the candy, costumes, and Jack-o-Lanterns to celebrate both Halloween and this major milestone! Ghosts are beginning their yearly haunt down the street, the zombies are stirring within their graves, and monsters and ghouls from around the world shout for their own spot in this months theme celebration.

mv5bmtg1mtgxmty2mf5bml5banbnxkftztgwodg0ntc1mde-_v1_ux182_cr00182268_al_We know Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, and other well-known faces in horror. For this month, we take the time to celebrate ALL monsters – both misunderstood and understood, respectively. MR. LOBO always says “They ARE NOT BAD MOVIES–Just Misunderstood” So this month, we’ll take a dive and bring you different varieties of misunderstood monsters and individuals hidden in the dark in mere tales and films who deserve to have their voice heard among the other famous monsters.

Body Snatchers, Headless Horsemen, Apocalyptic beasts, goblins, rabid bats, and much more…If you want to share a monster or horror individual you believe should have it’s voice heard, post or send a picture to our Facebook, Tumblr, or leave it in the comments below!

Also, keep your eyes open for CLASSIC CINEMA INSOMNIA episodes posted throughout the week on our pages and tune into OSI 74 for other Halloween fun!

Love Is In The Air Here At Cinema Insomnia

12654446_1095080167202705_3166004401792349798_nLove is In The Air Here! Monsters have risen, both misunderstood and understood to celebrate this month. There is much to love, regardless of the bond between the living and the undead and monsters alike. We celebrate the “misunderstood pairings” through fan art, archived images, scenes from the past.

12650811_10153892738179660_2942950735456816736_nWe’ve all have fallen in love for our individual or group of monsters. This month is not only about capturing the love between monsters and humans on film, but also our love for them. This is where you come in, Sleepless Knights and CInsomniacs! Over the years, more and more monsters have come onto the scene.

Many of you have collected memorabilia throughout the years. Some of you have posed with your favorite monsters. Others have captured footage such as this one of your monsters and their “loves”. This is your moment to join together this month to also show your “Monster Love”.

Who are your favorite monsters that you’ve come to love over the years? Which specific one captures your heart and will not let it go? This month is all about love. Love is meant to be expressed, shown, and viewed for the world.

It’s time to open up your hearts. Love is in the Air! Love Between Monsters. Love Between Humans and Monsters. Love Between Humans. Love amongst CInsomniacs and Sleepless Knights! And Love Amongst a Horror Host and Knights and CInsomniacs Around the World! Let’s Show It This Month!

Loyal and Royal! Knurl Chubb from the Bay Area is our Fan of The Week!

Lobo_BorloffWe are thankful for this week for one of our very best CInsomniacs a Sleepless Knight who goes by the codename KNURL CHUBB. She wrote a nice, self-described “long winded dissertation” about CINEMA INSOMNIA and how she came to watch it, and live the life. She sent us some of her favorite pictures taken with her camera. She especially likes the one of Mr. Lobo at the first Lobotronic in Sacramento at the Studio Theater. Also the SECRETS OF HORROR HOSTING panel at Wondercon 2006, with Bob and John, and the historic meeting of Mr. Lobo and Karlos Borloff at Comic-Con in San Diego, 2009.

KTEH, KCTH, AMGTV, DVD, LIVESTREAM, ROKU, She’s followed CI from outlet to outlet and looking forward to watching new CI episodes, live hosted on Ustream. She thinks it’s really fun to chat with the other fans while she watches. She convinced her boss at TRILLIAM GRAPHICS to sponsor CI on KTEH and she made a blow-up banner and stickers of CI artwork!
“We used to watch the L.A. horror host Seymour on Saturday nights when I was a teen, and later in college, we watched Bob Wilkins’ Creature Features show in the dorm TV room. I often lamented that there were no horror hosts on TV any more, and always wished they would revive Creature Features.

Then, one Saturday night, second week of October 2005, I turned on the TV to watch the un-hosted monster movies, on KTEH out of San Jose, and it was Cinema Insomnia with Mr. Lobo. In the Halloween show, he played his new music video “Watching TV”. It was fantastic! I was completely and irrevocably hooked. Mr Lobo had totally captured the feeling of watching monster movies with my friends as a teen!

lecture2Lobo I want you! fixedI love the show because it is a perfect blend of current and retro, really well written, creative, and hilarious. It has always made me forget my troubles for a couple of hours and have a good laugh. My favorite Saturday night is to watch monster movies in PJs with some snacks and the cats snuggled up.

I like to try and collect all the shows so I can have a nice archive. I have a lot of them on DVD and even VHS, and now that they are on the internet, I’ll probably have digital files as well. I also love going to the live shows, they are the best!”

Knurl also sent us a selfie in her CI Santa eyeball hat from that first fundraiser at KTEH, waaaay back when.

Hyah! Mr. Lobo gets a kick out of Martial Artist and Sleepless Knight of the Week–Mike Quebec

Number One Super guy, MICHAEL QUEBEC, is our fan of the week. Usually Mr. Lobo’s fans have a less active lifestyle. This Knight ran ads in some of our old shows as a call to arms to make low budget Martial Arts movies in the San Francisco Bay Area. The picture above is from a trailer for the series DISAVOWED.
Mike even allowed Mr. Lobo to record a segment at his school and showed our honorable host a few self-defense moves for the unfinished WENG WENG: THE IMPOSSIBLE KID(1982) episode. He also taught many CInsomniacs in the San Francisco Bay Area how to Swing Dance. Here, he tells his story…but first Let’s Rock!

http://www.themonsterclub.com/mn1.gif“I first encountered MR. LOBO in an issue of The MONSTER NEWS–issue number 10. It was sometime around the early 2000s when I got that free magazine while attending a film festival in Alameda. I later met him in person at the Castro Theater in San Francisco either during a GODZILLA, a DARK SHADOWS, or a JAMES BOND film festival (it was more than 10 years ago so I forget! I said, “You’re him!” to which he replied, “Who me, who hah?!”)

A few weeks later, after getting home late one night after hosting a swing dance party (one of my many jobs for which our friend and Sleepless Knight Bob Ekman refers to me as “Dancer Guy”), I flipped through the channels on my TV while trying to get sleepy and I saw that Mr. Lobo was on KTEH Channel 54 and I was hooked! I later met him again at a mutual friend’s party (actually a friend of mine who is also involved in swing dancing who emailed me asking, “Hey are you an Insomniac too?” after she saw my name on the Cinema Insomnia website as a visitor to the site leaving a comment.)

http://www.bmovienation.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/lobo_mr.jpgIt was easy talking to Mr Lobo and we found we had a mutual love not just of horror and sci-fi films, but basically all genres of cult cinema, including teen exploitation films from the 1950’s and ’60’s and martial arts films.

Later, he asked me to shoot a skit with him at the martial arts school I was teaching at at the time. (Another job of mine and that skit is up on You Tube!)

I was sad to hear that he was no longer on KTEH, but I always will have fun memories of his shows and I will always be a huge admirer of his comedic talent.

Thank you Mr. Lobo for bringing us such joy.”

The movie party doesn’t have to end, Mike. Here is a classic KTEH episode on our ustream channel! Remember when MR. LOBO hosted this film starring your martial arts Street Fighter hero SONNY CHIBA as SPACE CHIEF? The CINEMA INSOMNIA presentation of INVASION OF THE NEPTUNE MEN(1961)!
