LOBO.

When asked about his introduction to the show, here gave us his story in his own words:

“I was Introduced to Cinema Insomnia when I found a copy of VOYAGE TO THE PREHISTORIC PLANET(1965) at a local used book store. The DVD looked interesting so I bought it and went home and looked up Cinema Insomnia online and I have been a fan ever since.”

He followed his statement with a picture of his current collection of his 14 episodes of CINEMA INSOMNIA on DVD–with one more, HORROR HOTEL, pre-ordered and soon to join it’s plastic brethren. 12825341_843008289144010_1301116099_n

Daniel owns several autographed Cinema Insomnia items and for Christmas his wife got Daniel a ROKU so he could watch OSI 74 on their TV.

“I love Cinema Insomnia for the Mr. Lobo segments and vintage commercials just as much as watching the Misunderstood Movies. I heard our host might be coming to Florida later this year and I am looking forward to finally getting to meet Mr. Lobo LIVE and In Person. Thank you, Mr. Lobo, for all you have done and look forward to the future endeavors for Cinema Insomnia and OSI 74. ALL SYSTEMS GO!” 12804393_843008282477344_1466038465_n

Time to Go Retro, Let’s Go!

This Month We Remember Legendary Director Wes Craven!

Directors come from all over the world to create their masterpieces: misunderstood and understood. Throughout the years, we have seen directors rise then turn into the great beyond. A couple weeks ago, we lost one of the most remembered horror directors of all time. That director was the legendary Wes Craven.

11988499_862880197158597_9142582958466751279_n(1)Wesley Earl “Wes” Craven did not begin his directing career right away. At first, he worked in the education field as an English professor at Westminster College then a Humanities professor at Clarkson University. During his teaching career, he purchased a 16mm camera and began working on short films.

In 1972, he released his first full-length horror feature entitled, THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT. The film told the story of two teenage girls on their way to a rock concert. While on their way, they are kidnapped by four psychotic killers. Later, the killers stumble upon one of the girls’ home where her parents obtain their revenge on them.

11227524_10153683708029430_3309093586970181323_nHe continued his reign of film terror through taking you on a “family trip” into the desert to visit a family of cannibals in his 1977 hit, THE HILLS HAVE EYES! It has received a continuous cult following to this day along with receiving a sequel in 1985 and remake in 2006. With another hit under his belt, this did not stop Craven from his creative streak! Wes Craven continued transforming his films from various dreams he had. One of which we know today through it’s series and it’s iconic serial killer who haunts you in your dreams. It spawned many sequels, kick started several well-known actors careers, and brought terror to the silver screen and beyond.

This month, we remember the legend Wes Craven was and commemorate his works, both the misunderstood films and accepted ones. What are your favorite Wes Craven films? Which one do you believe is the most misunderstood?

Do you have any vintage collectables, posters, or memorabilia pictures you’d like to share? You can post them on our page and they will be shared on our pages! Artists, this includes your brilliant art!

RIP Wes Craven, you will never be forgotten!

Let’s make this month memorable and discover all things “Craven”!

Mr. Lobo Put A Spell on You For This Theme of the Month!

11825996_1000935806617142_6184060637867013462_n

Last month, robots roamed the Cinema Insomnia pages. This month things seem a little funny around here. Books are floating, cats are talking, even the movies are strange. Almost as if we were under a spell…..a misunderstood spell. We are under Mr. Lobo’s hypnotic power, but what if it is deeper than that this month? Maybe a witch, perhaps? But which witch?

Witches are one of the most misunderstood characters on film and in life. Sailing through the night on their brooms, the  There have also been interesting misunderstood films about them. For instance the notorious THE INCREDIBLY STRANGE CREATURES WHO STOPPED LIVING AND BECAME MIXED-UP ZOMBIES (1964). 4811.D_210_118

Yes, that one…stop staring at the mole! It may hypnotize you and turn you into a zombie! She is only one in a long line of characters we will explore this month. Who is your favorite misunderstood witch of all time? Is it this mysterious Estrella? Or Is it someone bigger and badder? How about the Sanderson Sisters?

Maybe not……

Open your spell books and send us your pictures, WITCHY themed art, tattoo art, collection of your Witch themed films or figures, or pictures/video of anything you think pertains to the theme and it will be shared on our pages to be seen and enjoyed by all!

As more news arises from OUTER SPACE INTERNATIONAL and CINEMA INSOMNIA, this month’s THEME OF THE MONTH shall bring it’s own sort of terror! For years, the mysteries of the Egyptian kings have baffled archeologists, historians, and scientists. Some have said the tombs hidden in the masses of sand and earth contain evil curses who rack the bodies of searchers who stumble upon them. For years, Universal and Hammer along with many independent films have told many different adaptions of the tale of THE MUMMY!

image2sIt all began with BORIS KARLOFF’s 1932 classic, THE MUMMY. His monster wreaked havoc, conquering anyone who was in his path. From there, a legend was born and from there did many films follow.

We’ve seen infinitely many different adaptions of this tale. THE MUMMY’S HAND (1940), THE MUMMY’S CURSE (1944), THE MUMMY’S GHOST, and many more. Then HAMMER FILMS began it’s own reign of terror.

This month, we will dive deep into the adaptions of THE MUMMY and maybe even discover a few surprises along the way. What is your favorite adaption of THE MUMMY? Do you prefer BORIS KARLOFF, LON CHANEY JR., or CHRISTOPHER LEE as the monster?

What is your favorite MUMMY franchise film? Do you prefer HAMMER or UNIVERSAL? Mummy-CurseSend us your pictures, MUMMY themed art, tattoo art, collection of your Mummy films or figures, or pictures/video of anything you think pertains to the theme and it will be shared on our pages to be seen and enjoyed by all!

Help us celebrate the “uncovering” of THE MUMMY as well as the more news to come from OUTER SPACE INTERNATIONAL. Keep Your Eyes Open, Your Curiosity in Check, and BEWARE OF THE MUMMY!

GIANT MONSTER MONTH demands a GIANT MONSTER FAN-OF-THE-WEEK!

SIR PAUL KNIGHT or “PAULZILLA” , has been watching good, bad, and misunderstood movies since his first hatching. His dear “Momzilla” recalls him peeking around the castle couch to watch THE WOLFMAN(1941) at the tender age of 3. Unlike other kids his age, he seldom had nightmares watching all the spookiness. He was lucky enough to catch  the tail-end of the AURORA Monster Model craze in the mid-70’s, working on the Glow-in-the-Dark versions of THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON(1954) and GODZILLA(1954) models with his Dadzilla.

After seeing most of the UNIVERSAL MONSTERS on TV, he came upon a wondrous find one day. While shopping with Momzilla, THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON leapt off the newsstand on a magazine emblazoned the title “FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND”.
690083
This was Paulzilla’s first foray(or is it Forry?) into the wild world of Warren Publications helmed by the wonderful FORREST J ACKERMAN and JIM WARREN.  So began the journey into other Warren mags such as EERIE, CREEPY, and, of course, a little later, VAMPIRELLA. UNCLE FORRY was a writer, a literary agent, a principle founder of modern fandom, and probably had the world’s biggest collection of books and movie memorabilia. He was a great influence to both horror and science fiction and to Paulzilla.

After having his little impressionable mind blown with the release of STAR WARS(1977), he discovered another wondrous thing, the TV horror-host. Now allowed to stay up later, he found DR. MADBLOOD’S MOVIES on WAVY TV-10. Forever fascinated with the gent in the grey afro and lab coat saying “Hi, gang!”–as though he knew he was there! DOCTOR MADBLOOD(Jerry Harrell) taught Paul to love the really bad B-Movies, but not to take them too seriously and has been entertaining audiences in the Hampton Roads, VA area for over 40 years now.1379822_588007891235371_836957973_n
“He would happily warn us “Okay gang, We have a real ker-stinker tonight!” He still has his Halloween Special every year. Last year I was the CFTBL for the taping. I’ve been very blessed over the years and been persuaded to do numerous little bits or characters for the show, despite me being camera-shy and more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it.”

508247845
Back in 1999, Paulzilla’s writing colleague and mentor Deborah Painter, persuaded him to co-write an article on DR. MADBLOOD for SCARY MONSTERS MAGAZINE, Issue number 38. He’s been making contributions in SCARY MONSTERS ever since–a book thought to be the spirit successor to Forry’s FAMOUS MONSTERS.

51ByCafZ3JL__SY344_BO1,204,203,200_BTW Insomniacs, you can find CINEMA INSOMNIA host MR.LOBO in back issue #60, and #69 regarding the horror-host documentary he narrated VIRGINIA CREEPERS(2009) directed by SEAN KOTZ, and also a nice article on MR. LOBO’s mentor BOB WILKINS in issue #51. SCARY MONSTERS MAGAZINE has been going strong for over 25 years now, and I’m honored to be associated with it. In 2010, Paulzilla was approached by Debbie Painter to contribute a chapter to her book, FORRY: THE LIFE OF FORREST J ACKERMAN (McFARLAND PUBLISHING) relating his personal encounters with him over the years.

Ci_gigantisEven though CINEMA INSOMNIA aired only briefly in the HAMPTON ROADS area in 2003-2004 on COX 71, thanks to the inter-webs and Livestream channels like THE KREEPY KASTLE and THE VORTEXX, Paulzilla has been able to catch-up with CINEMA IMSOMNIA episodes, and really digs MR. LOBO’s homage’ to the great hosting legends, Mr.John Stanley and Bob Wilkins.

“Mr.Lobo has his own unique style, but you can definitely see the influence these two gentleman had on him. Mr. Lobo was broadcast on a number of stations in Virginia and has legions of Insomniacs here.

Finally, after years of being a fan of the show, I got to meet Mr.Lobo and the lovely Dixie Dellamorto Lobo, at Monster Fest-11 in Chesapeake,Virginia,in 2014. I happily left the SCARY MONSTERS table I was manning to purchase MR. LOBO’s Fan Club Kit at the CINEMA INSOMNIA table.

I am now OFFICIALLY SK1196! To make the experience even more wonderful, I was asked, along with MR. LOBO and COUNT GORE DE VOL to be Costume Contest Judges at this fun and fabulously frightening event hosted by CRAIG T. ADAMS(AKA Brain and Uncle Feloneous Madblood). Yummmm..A horror-host sandwich! Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, I later, along with the other guests like ORMON GRIMSBY, and CRAIG T. ADAMS, got to have dinner with MR. LOBO and Dixie after the show. What a great day that was. Paulzilla just wants to say “How honored I am to be nominated Sleepless Knight Of The Week! Thank you!”

Since then, he has established himself and his own show MONSTER CREATURE FEATURE where he brings his own thrills to audiences.

SIR GRIMSBY considers MR. LOBO one of his influences and originally found CINEMA INSOMNIA around 2002/03 on the internet,

“I was searching to find out if there were still any hosts around and that is when I found Mr. Lobo. I immediately connected with his humor sci-fiBobmagazineand style and loved his show from the first time I saw it…I have since loved all things Lobo, including his Horror Hosts publication and Halloween CD. I am always looking forward to what he and Dixie Delamorto come up with next. They are an amazing duo.”

When asked why he keeps coming back to watch the show, he replied,

IMG_4744“I think I connect with what they do because (Mr. Lobo comes) comes from the same era growing up (we have) the same influences. Back in time when there wasn’t as much choice, you treasured some of those gold nuggets that came your way on a Saturday afternoon.”

Here is a video of a short interview between MR. LOBO and SIR GRIMSBY:

FAN’S CHOICE MONTH….SLASHERS! Ft. Who Won Baby Lobo?

22098_781142725332345_4407590882321473317_nTwo days ago, we asked you that this month was to be chosen by YOU! There were good Theme suggestions but one has prevailed. Ladies and Gentlemen, this month’s theme is…..SLASHERS! No, April Fools!

imagesNow when did the “Slasher Genre” begin? Where do Slasher’s come from? In 1960, Alfred Hitchcock shocked massive audiences around the world with his black and white feature starring Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh in PSYCHO. The film follows the story of a young woman on the run who decides to make a slight detour to a remote motel run by a disturbed young man by the name of Norman Bates, haunted by the memory of his dead mother.

Not only did PSYCHO frighten people in their seats, but the film inspired future generations of filmmakers. It placed a riff in the minds of writers, making them write screenplays transferred onto the silver screen with hits such as THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE(1974), HALLOWEEN(1978), FRIDAY THE 13th(1980), and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET(1984). This is where we shall spend the next month digging into the minds of slashers and the genre. There will be pictures, posters, trailers, clips, and reviews. But there is one piece of the puzzle we still need: YOU!

the-texas-chainsaw-massacre-movie-poster-1974-1020198670-198x300Do you believe Slasher’s are misunderstood? Which Slasher character is in your book the most misunderstood? Let us know in the comments on this site or our pages! Better yet, show us by sending us clips of your favorite Slasher monster or person along with why you think they are misunderstood and we will share your findings.

If you would like to do any theme related art, post it on our wall or send it to us and it will be shared on our pages. There are so many ways to get involved, join us! You may also take a step further and post your favorite scene, clip, picture or poster of your favorite SLASHER FEATURE on your Twitter or Instagram pages with #CISLASHERMONTH and tag or direct send it to Cinema Insomnia and we will favorite and Retweet/Share your findings.

Now Onto the Winner of Last Month’s CREEPY DOLL CONTEST!

The winner of Baby Lobo, made by Wicked Little Nursery, is…….FINN McCOOL! Finn sent us this picture freaky picture of what appears to be a creepy doll indeed along with his beautifully, smiling family members:

Baby Lobo is ready for his new home! Thank you Finn and everyone else who participated in last month’s contest! It was a great month and we all appreciate each and every one of you and your…..creepy dolls!

Now, don’t say “You’ll be right back,” Fresh up on your “Slasher Rules,” and Get ready for SLASHER MONTH!

Baby Lobo and Mitch Mittens Review “PUPPET MASTER VS. DEMONIC TOYS (2004)”

Misunderstood ReviewsDear Fair and Noble Sleepless Knights, CInsomniacs, and Misunderstood Movie Lovers from near and far! Mitch Mittens here! I apologize for not showing my leaves since January. It’s been quite busy over here behind the green curtain. I seemed to be growing quite bald over the winter and had to receive an immediate leaf transplant. Don’t laugh, it runs in the family-just ask Miss Mittens. Ok, no don’t ask her, she’ll probably tell Grandfather Mittens and he’ll show up in his wheelbarrow and award winning garden trowel. No matter, I am now 100% recovered and ready!

Today I am joined by one of the most misunderstood Babies of all time…..Baby Lobo! He is joining me this month for his ONE and ONLY MISUNDERSTOOD REVIEW! Next month he shall be sent to his new home to a special Sleepless Knight or CInsomniac to love, to hold, and to enjoy all the misunderstood movies this world has to offer!

220px-PuppetmasterdtSince this month is “CREEPY BABY MONTH,” Baby Lobo and I agreed to view and review the battle between two of FULL MOON ENTERTAINMENT famous horror monsters of all time: the DEMONIC TOYS and THE PUPPET MASTER puppets in PUPPET MASTER VS. DEMONIC TOYS(2004)! Baby Lobo filled up on milk and applesauce while I popped some plant food-flavored popcorn. Something told me this movie would be GREATLY misunderstood. Baby Lobo took the lead with the Insomniac Oath then we pressed play.

Take a peak at the Trailer first before reading on:

Now right as soon as the movie began, I noticed two things. One, there is no sign of “Full Moon Entertainment presents” and instead it’s the SyFy channel instead which means this is truly a misunderstood movie. The SyFy channel is responsible for MANY misunderstood films and sequels to some of our beloved horror classics including the last two THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD series additions along with this film. Next up was the drastic form change in the DEMONIC TOYS designs compared to the original FULL MOON films. Observe:

DEMONIC TOYS (1992):           Demonic_toy3sPUPPET MASTER VS. DEMONIC TOYS (2004):

Demonic_Toysvlcsnap-2012-03-05-16h38m41s147 HUGE difference! And if you are a die hard PUPPET MASTER fan and haven’t seen this movie-you might want to shield your eyes on what they do to Toulon’s puppets.

The film starts off with a Christmas toy commercial of children opening up their presents, revealing the new editions of the DEMONIC TOY dolls. The camera pans out to show a some-what rough looking Corey Feldman, grumbling about the commercial while he works on Toulon’s puppets. Feldman plays the role of Robert Toulon, the great-grandnephew of Andre Toulon. His character also has a teenage daughter who looks old enough to be his sister instead of his daughter. Now, they both discovered the secret formula to bring the puppets back to life. Word of warning: When your shop gets attacked by evil henchmen, never keep your overly large syringes out in plain sight when an unprofessional cop enters arrives on the scene. Bad acting and awkward glances shall arise…..really bad acting.

414+wj0vUpLOn the DEMONIC TOYS side, we meet Vanessa Angel’s character. A spoiled rich woman who inherited her families’ toy company following her father’s death. Her father had made a deal with the demon of wealth “Bael” in order to for his greedy daughter to have control over the Demonic Toys. Downside, the toys are not so obedient anymore. After finding out about the Toulon formula, she seeks to steal if from her former employee, Robert Toulon, and formulate her own evil scheme.

The rest of the film is made up of overly exaggerated lines and scary acting from the main characters (thank you Feldman), enough botox to make the story line float away into the abyss (the lips!), an evil plan to have monstrous toys wake up on Christmas morning to wreak havoc upon the innocent, and an unforgettable battle between puppets and toys. In the end, Baby Lobo and I agreed to give this film a 7 1/2 out of 10 Hypnotic Eyes.

Have any more Cinsomniacs or Sleepless Knights tuned into this film? If so, what are your thoughts on it? Do you agree with the rating? Leave your comments or private message and let us know! If you have a suggestion of another film for MITCH MITTENS to review, leave it in the comments. Thank you for “tuning in” and come back for more MISUNDERSTOOD REVIEWS!
