Art Lovers! Get Ready For The Unveiling of Mr. Lobo’s FAN OF THE WEEK!

photo5.phpSIRFinkleCreature ANDY FINKLE is a monster enthusiast, a librarian, and a visual artist. He creates his uniquely creative pieces in his art studio located in an old camper.
He participates in various shows along the East Coast and the Midwest, sharing his creations with attendees. He also shares his work on his website andyfinkle.com and had participated in our CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON Theme of the Month this past January by sharing his painting of “The Kilted Creature.”

11075140_10152634851952237_224193775_n Around ten years ago, SIR ANDY dove deep into learning about different horror hosts. MR. LOBO quickly became his favorite. So much so that he emailed MR. LOBO, asking him if he could paint MR. LOBO’s portrait.

Currently, his favorite misunderstood films are ones featuring monsters and aliens. He continued,

“If it turns out the monster isn’t bad (as in evil) so much as misunderstood than it is all the better. I love movies that were made on low budgets. Some of them do not seem to have been made to make money so much as because those involved in the project felt compelled to make the movie, those are the most fun.”

finklecreepMR. LOBO and DIXIE tapped the talented Andy Finkle to illustrate the late great Barry Lee Hobart AKA DR. CREEP(1941-2011) for their tribute in the print edition of  HORROR HOSTS AND CREATURE FEATURES magazine.

poster-zaat When it comes his overall favorite misunderstood monster movie film, SIR ANDY’s personal favorite is the tale of the mad scientist who injected himself with a formula, transforming into a catfish beast entitled ZAAT or THE BLOOD WATERS OF DR. Z(1971).

“I love the scene with the hippie pied piper, the team in matching jumpsuits that travel around in an RV, and the crazy hand-drawn wheel illustration made by Dr. Z. That movie has got it all!” SIR ANDY recommended.

FINAL WEEK OF SPOOKY DOLL MONTH!

10314626_776543455792272_8083748706685441162_nFor a full month we have brought you a look at some majorly spooky and over all creepy dolls on and off the silver screen. Record album covers featuring missionaries with their ventriloquist dummies….now those are plain scary. You’ve also shared with us some creepy dolls of your own in the past and in the present. This picture was sent in by Sleepless Knight Kim Wailes of her older sister’s old Barbie pictures. Lady Kim explained the story behind the picture:

984277_10153188519659430_4552569859919821418_nMy older sister’s Barbie family pictures were always a bit more put together. That baby is creepy. Grandma and Grandpa dolls’ eyes came out and fit perfectly into the ring hole on Barbies’ hands so those two eventually lost all of their eyes, and they were terrifying with just eye socket hole.”

10986901_762454510534500_6551333240848879688_nWe’ve also been holding a Spooky Doll contest. What do you have to do? This Fan of the Week is a Lord…Horror Host, Lord Blood Rah!

LBR+on+set1The curtain has risen, the fog machines have begun, and through the smokey haze arises our Fan of the Week LORD BLOOD-RAH! He first met MR. LOBO at the famous WONDERCON around the early 2000s. At that time, LORD BLOOD-RAH wasn’t aware that the horror hosts were still going strong. He purchased two of MR. LOBO’s DVDs from his booth and has been a strong CInsomniac ever since, filling up on misunderstood horror films.

LORD BLOOD-RAH began on his “misunderstood quest” for Horror and Sci-fi flicks all the way back to the classic show CREATURE FEATURES hosted by Horror Host SIR BOB WILKINS,

“I grew up watching that show and blame it for my current condition!” He exclaimed, with a smile.

LBR+at+Forbidden+IslandToday, LORD BLOOD-RAH is a well esteemed Horror host with his show LORD BLOOD-RAH’S NERVE WRACKIN’ THEATRE for the past six years and is still going strong in the “Horror Host Community”.

He began his reign through hosting shows at live venues to the masses in the Bay Area and grew over the years. His show is currently in production for his fourth season and airs in Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan as well as two local television stations and on the Horror channel GETSCARED TV on ROKU.

Here is one of his episodes featuring the 1962 misunderstood classic EEGAH!:

He first found CINEMA INSOMNIA back when it used to air in the San Francisco bay area on KTEH Ch. 54 and transformed into the loyal viewer and Sleepless Knight he is today.

SIR ROB has shown his support by purchasing autographed CINEMA INSOMNIA DVDs from MR. LOBO each year he was at Wondercon in San Francisco. He currently writesand edits his long running semi-autobiographical internet comic strip entitled HELL ON WHEELS. He transported our Host into HELL ON WHEELS in his #144 edtion comic strip. Here is the strip:

Quit witted and naturally funny, SIR ROB has excitedly and expertly written hilarious gags for MR. LOBO for many CINEMA INSOMNIA episodes and for live shows such as Blobfest. Back in 2013, he helped shape the “wheelchair enhanced” character of Professor Ex-Exorcist in our 2013 CINEMA INOSMNIA Haunted House Special.

He continues to be on the mission of converting people into CINSOMNIACS online by sharing links about the show and spreading the word that “They are NOT BAD MOVIES–JUST MISUNDERSTOOD!” MR. LOBO appreciates him for all he has done for the cause and for what he continues to do day after day!   He will be helping the LOBOs develop new shows and projects for their upcoming venture OUTER SPACE INTERNATIONAL,

Thank you, SIR ROB L. McCARTHY, valued Sleepless Knight, for ALL of your support and for watching all those Misunderstood Movies! THIS SLEEPLESS KNIGHT OF THE WEEK’S SECRET IDENTITY IS REVEALED!

10469597_742351772454106_782408057_nWho could this mysterious SLEEPLESS KNIGHT OF THE WEEK be? BATMAN? CAPTAIN CINEMA INSOMNIA? No, it’s SIR BRANDON BLACKMOOR! We have put up the signal to honor this SLEEPLESS KNIGHT on this Friday, February 6th, 2015. We take you now to the story of how this Sleepless Knight of Insomnia came to be.

Ci_gigantisSIR BRANDON grew up tuning into Dr. Madblood during his “formative years” and  became a devoted fan of MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 as an adult. But his Sleepless Knight crusade all began in Portsmouth, Virginia. That night, SIR BRANDON picked up the episode of CINEMA INSOMNIA of MR. LOBO hosting GIGANTIS THE FIRE MONSTER on a local UHF channel. He may have missed the beginning of this classic episode; however, he did catch the name of our host which stuck with him afterwards……MR. LOBO.

But our tale does not end there, folks, oh no. That is only the beginning. He revealed his long remembered tale to us and now we tell it to you.

title

Several years later, SIR BRANDON attended one of the yearly MONSTER FEST in Chesapeake, Virginia. While roaming through the halls, he came across a man win a suit and “Birth Control Glasses.” His face caught SIR BRANDON’S attention and he placed himself in the stranger’s path.

“You look a lot like a guy I saw on late night TV once,” He recalled to the gentleman.

“Mr. Lobo,” the gentleman replied.

“Yes! I have only seen it once, but it was a cool show. That’s a great costume.”

“I *am” Mr. Lobo.” The stranger revealed.

SIR BRANDON remembered feeling dumbfounded at that moment. Then when his senses came back to the front, MR. LOBO was gone.

012-VenusAfter a few more years, one of SIR BRANDON’S friends had shared MR. LOBO’S Facebook page with him. From then on SIR BRANDON discovered cinemainsomnia.com along with discovering classic CINEMA INSOMNIA episodes including his favorite episode FIRST SPACESHIP TO VENUS on ZOM-BEE TV and THE ANOMALIES CHANNEL. He then joined and sworn into THE SLEEPLESS KNIGHTS OF INSOMNIA!

If you also like to send your story about how you came upon CINEMA INSOMNIA and your love for MR. LOBO and misunderstood movies–send us your story through direct message. GULP! PREPARE YOURSELF FOR OUR FIRST FAN OF THE WEEK OF 2015!

10899795_10152960583903006_785351963_n  b0e33ca55810733e78272588bf5ba555SIR SCOTT BRADLEY has been a monster-sized fan of misunderstood movies since he was a little kid. Classic horror hosts, UNCLE TED from his GHOUL SCHOOL in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and Philly legend DOCTOR SHOCK along with their own personal bags of tricks and fantastic films could be found enjoyed in his family home. When it comes to Horror Hosts, he believes it’s a uniquely bizarre art form and at the time they along with the films were frightening, but today he has found a love for them. His favorites are films created by the beloved cult or “campy” masterminds like ED WOOD, JOHN WATERS, and RUSSEL MEYER, because they celebrate the average person in today’s world and open the eyes of people from all walks of life.

SIR SCOTT discovered MR. LOBO back in the mid-2000’s when CINEMA INSOMNIA aired on KTEH PBS channel 54 out of San Jose, California. At that time, SCOTT attended a live LOBOTRONIC film show at the BAL THEATER in SAN LEANDRO. He recalled his first thoughts and impressions of our host MR. LOBO on stage and screen.
10872330_10152960583243006_1821208058_n

“I loved his patter with the audience and his persona. I loved the minimalist approach and the knowing, self-deprecating humor, and became a steady viewer–What I love about MR. LOBO is his ability to take the limitations of a budget and resources and make them part of his art. He flaunted it and transcended it, allowing a knowing wink at himself as well as the movies. And I LOVED the commercial breaks and the taped mini-movie around ‘LAST MAN ON EARTH(1964)’ Great Stuff!”

10887903_10152960584178006_298277436_n
SIR SCOTT has helped advertise as well as “random vandalism”, as he called it, for MR. LOBO’S many live shows at the Bal Theater. He recalled the highest point of his fandom was when he was able to supply some tombstones and decorative props for MR. LOBO’s Halloween show at the Theater.

“Sleepless Knight Scott Bradley is the real deal. We need more like him. He really gets what we are doing and knows what we are up against to do this kind of show in this day and age. He provided much appreciated support when we were doing shows in the bay area. He is now part of our nation-wide CInsomniac family and helps make this world safe for Misunderstood Movies.” –says Mr. Lobo.

Scott also donated to CINEMA INSOMNIA’S 10th ANNIVERSARY KICKSTARTER and proudly displays his “thank you” certificate and screen used LOBO TIE..

Thank you, SIR SCOTT BRADLEY, valued Sleepless Knight, for ALL of your support and for watching all those Misunderstood Movies! Here is your FAN OF THE WEEK certificate that you can download and print. Congratulations, SIR SCOTT BRADLEY –THE SLEEPLESS KNIGHT OF THE WEEK–for January 30 through February 5th, 2015!

WEEK 2 OF OUR UNDERSEA MONSTER WEEK ON CINEMA INSOMNIA!

12062552-mmmain10924815_10205927515331158_4252235452359550799_n10897910_892553820788675_3256921691108692389_nHello Sleepless Knights and CInsomniacs! If you reading this CONGRATULATIONS-You’ve made it to the second week of our CINEMA INSOMNIA THEME OF THE MONTH: UNDERSEA MONSTERS with THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON to lead the way! Last week your participation was not FISHY but more SPLASH-TASTIC! (pardon the swimming puns) We received and shared many of your artwork like the one on the left done by CINSOMNIAC STEVEN LEWIS. Others sent in pictures of masks from their GILLMAN masks.

This week is a new week and it’s no exception. If you still have art or pictures you’d like to send in-DO IT! They will be shared on all of our pages! Your participation is what keeps us going and it puts a smile on MR. LOBO’s face to see what you bring to our monthly fest.

11405_892084144168976_423619937558318328_nFor those who missed last week’s beginning extravaganza, no worries. If you would like to do any theme related art, post it on our wall or send it to us and it will be shared on our pages. There are so many ways to get involved, join us! You may also take a step further and post your favorite scene, clip, picture or poster of your favorite UNDERSEA CREATURE FEATURE on your Twitter or Instagram pages with #CIUNDERSEAMONTH and tag or direct send it to Cinema Insomnia and we will favorite and Retweet/Share your findings.

THE GILLMAN paved the way last week, but we are now slowly going to look at other misunderstood creatures such as the monster from THE CREATURE FROM THE HAUNTED SEA and much more!

It’s time to jump back into the sea and find out what shall come out this CINEMA INSOMNIA UNDERSEA MONSTER MONTH!

Time To Go To the Lagoon for Cinema Insomnia’s Theme of the Month!

12062552-mmmainYou heard that right, everyone. From now on, instead of there being a
THEME OF THE WEEK there-there will be a THEME OF THE MONTH. This means three times the MISUNDERSTOOD fun as well as re-discovering and dedication for the misunderstood creatures we are honoring! It will also give you more time to
find out about them.

TThis month, we are honoring THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON (1954) along with his other undersea brothers and sisters who search for acceptance not only below the earth but more importantly above the seas’ watery abyss. Some of these creatures want to be loved, to thrive, to explore a whole new world (not to be confused with the Disney idea if you catch my drift)! Others crave domination over the seas much like HUMANOIDS OF THE DEEP (1980) who seek to dominate human women but we’ll touch base on that later.

THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON is one of those monsters that is rarely discussed and yet his image is used in many of the UNIVERSAL MONSTERS posters and merchandise. This Month we will change all that with a variety of posters, clips, reviews, and much more including this creature and it’s misunderstood undersea monster family.

aa262e417c786072ca1114ec06044d54It’s a new year here for CINEMA INSOMNIA and we would like to hear about what you think about THE CREATURE. Do you believe he is misunderstood? Which undersea monster is in your book the most misunderstood? Let us know in the comments on this site or our pages! Better yet, show us by sending us clips of your favorite undersea monster along with why you think they are misunderstood and we will share your findings.

Let’s Warm Up, Stretch, Wait 15 minutes after we finish our last meal, Now Let’s Go UNDER THE SEA! Step over, Ariel, because here comes THE CREATURE OF THE BLACK LAGOON!
